Best Argentine Restaurants in London

After 15 years of living and trying Argentine restaurants in London, this is our selection of the best restaurants.

Empanadas, asado, parrillada, achuras (molleja and others) and milanesas are some of the most traditional dishes you should try. Check our post “Best Traditional Food in Argentina” for a complete and comprehensive list.

Chango

Chango makes the best and most authentic Argentine empanadas in London. I first tried them 10 years ago in Brick Lane market, and they only got better ever since.

They currently have 3 restaurants (Wimbledon, Richmond, Highgate), are present in 8 markets and also deliver to all UK.

Malevo Tower Bridge

Malevo is an independent, family-run Argentine grill and steak house, located in the heart of Bermondsey.

They offer high-quality Argentine beef cooked in an authentic charcoal parrilla. Their menu includes Iberico pork chops, New Zealand lamb, fresh salads, chunky chips and more. They also have an extensive list of Argentinean wines, which includes Malbecs of every region.

Buen Ayre

Buen Ayre is one of the most popular steak houses in East London. It is located on the busy and trendy Broadway Market, in the heart of Hackney.

The headline act is the steaks, served in a range of cuts with a simple garnish. I recommend trying provoleta and parrillada (see picture above) at least.

Buenos Aires Argentine Steakhouse

Buenos Aires Argentine Steakhouse is another well established restaurant with a good presence in West London. They have four branches in Chiswick, Richmond, Horsham, Reigate and Wimbledon.

It is more of a traditional steakhouse, offering different cuts (rump, sirloin, rib eye, tenderloin) by weight. They also offer chicken and pork belly, among other things.

Casa Malevo

Casa Malevo is another great restaurant located in central London, between Paddington and High Park.

Besides the traditional steak offering, Casa Malevo has incorporated a fusion of techniques and products and their menu includes other dishes such as Paella Arancini, hake, chicken and more.

It also has an intimate private room on the lower floor inspired by old sophisticated Estancias dining rooms and holds seating parties up to 12 people.

Santa Maria del Sur

Santa Maria del Sur is a cosy neighbourhood restaurant located in Battersea. They specialise in steaks and asado / parrillada and they also offer a limited variety of chicken, fish, pasta and burgers.

Some of the sides I can recommend are berenjena a la parrilla (grilled aubergine) and morrón asado (grilled red pepper). And for dessert, I can recommend Don Pedro.

Gaucho

Gaucho is a very professional and more formal chain well established in London and outside the capital as well. They have managed to create a high-end brand with quality food and wines.

They have 12 restaurants in London plus 4 outside the city: Leeds, Manchester, Birmingham and Edinburgh.

Their food has a contemporary global influence and their beef comes strictly from Argentinian, premium Black-Angus cattle bred at hand-selected farms.

Among private parties and other events, they offer an Electro Branch which twists on the standard fare accompanied with the best, curated house music from a selection of the hottest DJs and a bottomless steak and wine.

Chimichurris

Chimichurris is our favourite in SE1. They offer most classic Argentine dishes such as molleja, milanesa and parrillada, and also a couple of fish and pasta dishes.

If you are thinking about skipping meat, I strongly recommend their grilled octopus, which is stuffed with polenta and is served with smoked paprika and salsa criolla.

The restaurant is relatively small and you can see its chef Nico Modad cooking from your table. It’s a relaxed and cosy atmosphere.

*) Chimichurri is a South American sauce made from finely chopped parsley, minced garlic, olive oil, oregano, bell pepper, red pepper flakes, and vinegar. The legend about its name indicates that an Englishman was asking for curry, so “Give me curry” was wrongly interpreted by an Argentine as “Chimichurri”.

Moo Cantina

Moo Cantina is located at Pimlico and offers steaks and other traditional food, burgers, brunch and a set of nibbles such as nachos. They also offer draught beer, wines and cocktails in a casual atmosphere.

They have a large space suitable as a venue for big groups and parties indoors and outdoors including a beer garden.

Bife

Bife is a relatively new restaurant on the popular Brick Lane in East London.

They offer traditional food, draught beer and cocktails in a relaxing and casual atmosphere. They also offer a selection of specialities from Córdoba, a province in Argentina where the owners are from, such as Lomitos (see picture above).
